COMMENTS:

Micke Kågered did one qualification run saturday and ran 5.07 sec/268 mph. Continouos good performance in one of the slowest field so far this season. The problem seemed to be that most of the car lost traction for different reasons. Micke´s fellow team mate Alan Jackson is in competition with his car for the first time this year. During the first run the blower belt came off Alan´s car and during his second try he smoked the tires. Since most of the teams qualified poorly it will be pretty much a surprise what happens during the first round of eliminations on sunday (schedlued at 10.20 a.m.) Micke Kågered meets Pelle Lindelöw and Alan Jackson is up against Andy Carter. Carter who ran a decent 5.21 at noon saturday, but got problems during his last try for the day. Anita Mäkelä´s efforts seems to be going in the right direction, since her last try for the day also was her best (5.62 sec).

COMMENTS Eliminations:

What can we say? The weekend started in the best possible way with the top fueler and ended in disaster, when the fuel pump of Micke´s top fueler cracked and started a chain reaction that among other things set the engine on fire and both rear wheels exploded. It was pure luck (and maybe an ounce of Micke´s skills as a driver) that the car came to a standstill without severe injuries as a result. In the continued eliminations Anita Mäkelä showed good form up until the moment when her engine broke in the final and maybe cost her the championship title. It may have been a difficult task to outrun Andy Carte, who really got things at this event running 5.0 sec. runs all the way through. A worthy winner of the FIA championship although he only made it by one mere point. Alan Jackson, who ran Knut Söderqvist´s other dragster for the first time this season, lost already in the first round when the blower belt came off his car. Tommy Möller, who has been doing so well in  the top fuel tour did not have a successful weekend. Having problems with fron wheel lifts he had to shut off early in his run against Anita. Not that it seemed to have mattered. Anita´s 4.99 second run would have been tough to beat anyway.

COMMENTS Qualifications:

Good and close performance in the field where the fastest six cars qualified under 6.seconds. The last run for the day saturday was cancelled after a rain shower delayed the session by hours. Micke Kågered and Leif Andréasson was separated by less than one hundreds of a second and the eliminations sunday should be really worth seeing. Kågered meets Krivan in the first run, while Andréasson is up against Grödem. Andréasson in reality has already won the FIA Championship, while the battle is still on between Leanders, Helander and Kågered about the 2nd - 4th position in the championship.

COMMENTS Eliminations:

Tough competition to say the least this weekend where the top six cars qualified with E.T´s under six seconds. Micke Kågered´s car- performing so well all weekend all the way up to the final, where a spark plug broke and we lost a cylinder completely. If Micke was disappointed to loose the final he was compensated by the fact that his 5.79 sec. run is a new European record. Andréasson broke  his engine "big time" during the first round of eliminations and was not able to continue running, which meant Leanders got a solo run in the semi-finals. Lex Joon unfortunately was disqualified as his car crossed one of the lines that mark the actual lane (we do not have information if it was the side line of center line). To summon up - team Kågered and Leanders was "the winners" in methanol funny car at this event but it was Andréasson, who had earned his points well before the last race, that walked away with the FIA European champion title 2001. A worthy champion that together with the other teams have contributed to a good show and performance  that are not far behind what they run in the U.S.

Micke smoked the tires app. 100 meters out on the track and disappeared in a big cloud of smoke. Tommy´s run looked nice and smooth. Both cars had 60-foot times around 0.94 seconds, which is really good. Only one round scheduled today saturday. SUnday will include one more qualification run and one final.

COMMENTS Session #2:

Micke lost a cylinder right after start and smoked the tires app. 50 meters out on the track. He stepped off the throttle right away and just rolled over the finish line. Möller looking good again. Micke comments: "We knew Tommy was going to be tough to beat this weekend where we only run 1/8 mile", Micke Kågered comments. "His car has been quicker than mine on the first part of the track all season, we gain most of our time from half-track to the finish when we run the full track distance", he continues. "We will see what happens in the final. It is going to be tough for sure", Micke concludes.

COMMENTS Session #1:

The time of Urs Embacher is under investigation and will probably be cancelled.  Micke Kågered run in the same pair with Leif Andréasson and both cars experienced some tire shakes (not too bad) beginning at half-track. Both of them managed to run through it with good results. Urs Erbacher run 5.93 during practice friday, but did not quite manage to repeat it for the first run today. One more runs is scheduled late afternoon. Weather is very hot, humid and cloudy at the moment.

COMMENTS Session #2:

Excellent performance by Andreásson, Erbacher and Joon. Ignition problems for Micke Kågered made the car act very different than supposed to. A fault in the ignition system was dicovered once back again in the pit area that could explain the behaviour of the car.

COMMENTS Session #3:

After having adjusted the ignition for this run the car acted more normal again and Mickes time this run was 5.98 sec. The fourth qualification run was cancelled since the organisers were hours behind schedule after a major clean up from oil in one lane. This means the qualifications are complete and it is Andréasson and Joon who have the lowest total elapsed times and will meet in the final.

COMMENTS Final:

Lex Joon were ahead of Andréasson from the starting line with a better reaction time and also managed a fine elapsed time of 5.97 sec. Andréasson was not able to catch up Joon and it was Joon who crossed the finish line first. However Joon´s run was diqualified as he he hit a cone at the finish line (the word is that it caused the time to stop in Andréassons lane too, but that is not confirmed). Andréasson was announced the winner.

COMMENTS:

After a whole day of waiting, the rain pouring down, we could finally run a qualification run at 6 p.m. - Micke Kågered is the leader of the pack after the run, with Tommmy Möller following close behind. Micke did find it a bit slippery at the last part of the track in his lane, but was satisfied to be number one qualifier his first time racing at Tullinge. "It is a nice track", Micke says and continues; "I think we will see some really good and fast racing on sunday, both in top fuel and the other classes".

Monica Öberg had to shut off somewhat early as the front part of hercar jazzed sideways pretty bad (as we saw it from trackside). What happened to Pelle Lindelöw we do not know. The time tells he had problems of some kind. This concludes the qualifications. One chance only was provided, which not seem very fair, but the weather is something we can not influence.. In sunday´s first round of eliminations Micke Kågered meets Pelle Lindelöw and Tommy Möller is up against Monica Öberg. To be continued..

COMMENTS Finals:

What can we say - the car goes like a bracket race car, very consistent mostly thanks to the skills of Alan Jackson and Bill Schultz who are tuning the car. This was Micke´s second win in the top fuel tour and he was very content after the run. "It feels GOOD to win", said Micke and the rest of the crew can only agree. Tommy Möller´s car lifted the front wheels a meter up in the air soon after the start and Tommy did not stand a chance to catch up with Micke after that.

COMMENTS Semi-finals:

First pair out was Möller against Öberg. Tommy Möller did  not quite manage to repeat the fine time he did yesterday, but it was enough to win over Monica Öberg. Team Kågered´s intentions for this first run was pretty much to try and repeat what we did yesterday. It was Pelle who was out first from the starting line, bur Micke could win the run comfortably anyway running the fine time 5.19 sec/473 km. Pelle Lindelöw on the other hand spilled oil from 100 meters out and all the way after the finish line. A major cleanup is going on at the moment (1.45 p.m.) The final between Möller/Kågered is scheduled to 4 p.m. and we will post the results a.s.a.p.

COMMENTS:

Not bad to be in second position after only two real top fuel runs and with good performance too. Unfortunately the crank was damaged during this run and a change of engine is on the agenda tonight. During the last session just minutes ago (8.00 p.m) only Anita Mäkelä and Kim Reymond were out running. Anita just made a practice launch and shut off early. Kim Reymond still not being in the field after having struggled for two days needed a time bad to be in the elimination ladder.

Micke Kågered is up against Peter beck in the first round of eliminations. Anita Mäkelä will meet Kim Reymond and Barry Sheavills run against Andy Carter.

COMMENTS:

Peter Beck had a terrible weekend. His team did not perform well during qualifications, no matter how hard they tried. During the last session he then broke his engine so bad he could not continue. Micke, alone on the starting line for the quarter finals made a 1000-foot pass with a brilliant time 5.36 sec. As number one qualifier he then was granted a bye run in the semi-finals in the 6-car ladder. For different reasons the organisers were running late and therefore in the semi-finals team Kågered decided to make a real easy pass to cut the time needed to prepare the car for the final. Andy Carter got a bit to eager in the quarter finals and red-lighted against Sheavills who continued to the semi-finals. Anita Mäkelä, always popular at Mantorp lost unexpectedly in the first round to Kim Reymond. Reymond having had a tough qualification, breaking parts and working hard to get everything together performed much better during the eliminations. Being a cobra at the startling line won him the semi-final over Barry Sheavills (who had a lower elapsed time). In the final the blower belt came off Micke´s car at approximately 1000-feet and Micke could only watch Reymond fly over the finish line as a winner.
"Real bad luck, that is the only thing I can say", Micke commented. "The blower belt breaks very seldom and it is a pity it happened during a final.. it is just for us to let it go and start concentrating on next event at Tullinge next weekend", said Micke Kågered.

COMMENTS Qualifications:

Both Micke Kågered and Leif Andreasson have been running consistent so far and together with Leif Helander and Ulf Leanders they are a really strong quartet of Swedes.
First run of eliminations will be a solo run for Andreasson, while Micke Kågered will oppose Urs Embacher in the first round. Team Kågered are still struggling to find the right combination of clutch and fuel setup for the current track conditions. The car is quick and consistent, but we will try to our best to improve the performance for tomorrow.

COMMENTS:

Easy win in the quarter finals for Micke Kågered against Leif Helander, who could not get his car to run real fast at this event. Ulf Leanders, who was outstanding during qualifications was beaten already first round when his engine broke. Rookie Jörgen Johnsson instead got the bye run in the semifinals. Team Kågered had several problems and did not get the car to perform good enough to beat Andréasson who was Mr. Consistency during eliminations and could add another well deserved victory to his record. Micke´s comment on his team´s performance: "We really struggled during qualifications. First we had problems with the ignition and the engine lost two cylinders completely. When we solved the problems, the on board computer would not work, which meant we did not get readings from the runs and pretty much had to guess how to adjust the clutch and fuel system", Micke sighs. " It worked pretty good to begin with and we qualified with the time 6.02 sec. which is not bad. However we knew that was not good enough to beat Andréasson nor Leanders in the eliminations. The adjustments we decided on did not work out and the car got bad tire shakes and I could not hold full throttle all the way in the semi-final", Micke continues. " I am a bit disappointed I must admit. The funny car has not been performing so well this season as it did last year when we won five events in a row", Micke points out.

COMMENTS Session #1:

Good run for Micke, straight and smooth. Unfortunately we did not get any speed indication (nor did Pelle Lindelöw). Tommy Möller´s engine went on fire during the run, we suspect they have some damages to take care of, but there was never any real danger as the fire was quickly distinguished by the rescue crew. Monica Öberg got problems  (could not get the reverse in maybe?) and just continued all track down.

Team Kågered is in for a engine change since the crank shaft broke during the run. We also have some damage to the clutch.  At the moment (1.45 p.m.) it is raining and delays are to be expected. Once the weather clear up the track will have to be dried before we can run again.

COMMENTS Session #2:

We did not get the car race ready in time for the second session today. We changed the damaged crank shaft instead of changing the whole engine, which took some time. Tommy Möllers´ engine suffered major damages last run as we suspected (block, crank etc. needs to be replaced), so he was not out running in the second session either.
Micke Kågered is still quickest with the 5.14 he managed earlier today. We will be out once more (7.30 p.m.) according to the schedule and will be back after that with the final qualification standings. The weather has cleared up pretty much, so we hope to stand clear of rain for the nearest hours at least.

COMMENTS Session #3:

A heavy rain shower came across the track area around 6 p.m. and after that the organisers have tried to dry the track for two hours. At 9 p.m. it was decided that the third qualification session must be cancelled, since the track is still not dry and it is getting cooler rapidly. This means it is still Micke Kågered who is number one qualifier and he meets Pelle Lindelöw in sunday´s first elimination run. Möller´s crew is still working hard to get the car race ready after suffering major damage to the engine earlier today. Tommy Möller is up against Monica Öberg in the first run tomorrow (scheduled around noon).
We will be back with results from sunday´s sessions.

COMMENTS Finals:

Big day for Micke Kågered who ended the eliminations by running 5.05 sec. which is a new track record here in Piteå. Tommy Möller won over Pelle Lindelöw in the battle about third place. Tommy´s time was 5.34 sec. and it looks like things are starting to go right again for team Möller.

COMMENTS Semi-finals:

After the qualification run 5.14 yesterday and the win against Pelle Lindelöw in the semi-finals, one must say that Micke Kågered has proved himself worthy of a seat in the top fuel tour. The speed 474 km is a new unofficial Swedish record. At the moment we are taking the engine apar (1.10 p.m). The clutch in Mickes car hurt during the run and also one main bearing, so we are in for a engine change for the final and the mechanics are working real hard at the momemt. The Final run against Monica Öberg is scheduled to 4 p.m. if there are no further delays. Both Pelle Lindelöw and Tommy Möller smoked the tires. Möller having changed the complete engine for today and maybe with a different combination as a result did what he could to get to the finish line as quick as possible. Tommy is meeting Pelle in the run about the 3rd place.

Third qualifying session was cancelled due to rain.

COMMENTS Session #1:

We think all four top fuel tour teams wanted to make a careful first run and check out what the traction was like, since it is the first time we run at Wittstock Raceway (a former military air force base). Micke got a very smooth run (maybe a bit too smooth) and he shut off at least 100 meters early according to plan (that is why the speed was only 256 km/h). At the moment maintenance work and adjustments are made to the car and if the traction is OK we will be able to go quicker next run, that is scheduled at 4 p.m. Also there will be one thrird run at 9 p.m. tonight. Then the air will probably be a bit cooler and better for the engines.

COMMENTS Session #2:

During the second qualifying session all cars had to go in the left lane, due to an oil down in the right lane. The left lane has been considered as the better of the two lanes and the performance improved a great deal for most teams. Team Kågered are a bit confused obout the elapsed time of our run. With 446 km/h in speed, the elapsed time should be quicker than 5.40 the scoring board showed. The run looked good and straight and it came as a surprise that the time was "so slow". At the moment it means were are in the third qualifying spot, which we hope to improve later tonight.

Tommy Möller´s run looked real good as well, while Monica Öberg was pretty much all over the track. She did a good driving job and there is nothing to complain about when it comes to her elapsed time 5.27. That was probably pretty much what the track could take at that moment. Pelle Lindelöw is still struggling and went up in smoke again. As there will be a thrird qualification run tonight, we hope everyting works out better for him then.

Micke Kågered vs. Tommy Möller

  SEMI-FINALS
1 Monica Öberg 10.34/123
4 Pelle Lindelöw 8.83/265

FINAL

Pelle Lindelöw 12.06/144
Tommy Möller 5.20/37 W!
2 Micke Kågered 5.21/464
3 Tommy Möller 5.13/451

The run between Micke Kågered and Monica Öberg about the third place ended with a solo run for Micke after Öberg´s chassis broke in her run against Pelle Lindelöw.
However, Micke´s car "smoked the tires" and he shut off at half track. The time was a modest 10.69 sec/133 km to conclude the race in Wittstock for this season

COMMENTS Eliminations:

5 thousands of a second - that is how close Micke Kågered was to beat Tommy Möller in the first round of eliminations. Micke was first off the starting line and according to himself "he never saw Tommy" during the entire race. Möller running almost one tenth of a second quicker than Micke overtook Micke litterally on the finish line. "I have never been so sure I won during my entire career so it must have been real close", said a disappointed Micke Kågered, who is now to meet Monica Öberg to compete about the third/fourth positions. The track seemed pretty good and Micke´s speed during this last run was impressive 464 km (288 m.p.h). "Although we did not win, we still have the chance to to try and reach the 300 m.p.h limit", said car owner Knut Söderqvist after the race. He was satisfied with Micke´s way of driving and is confident there is more to take out of the car, to increase the performance further.

In the other pair Öberg vs. Lindelöw the cars did not live up to their normal standards, both cars having problems of some kind. In the end it was Pelle Lindelöw, who was first over the finish line and that is what matter, so he meets Tommy Möller in the final of the first top fuel tour event.

After Monica Öberg returned to the pit area we found out the chassis of her dragster had broken during the run against Lindelöw. That means some of the special seemless tubing need to be replaced and that is nothing that can be done on the track today. As a result Micke Kågered got a solo run and by that ended in third place. Tommy Möller with experienced crew chief Peter Lantz did well all weekend and it is only to congratulate them on their good performance.

COMMENTS Qualifications:

Saturday´s qualification schedule was delayed partly due to rain showers. This meant the three runs scheduled was reduced to one. Things did not change much in the qualification list. Ulf Leanders however improved his time slightly to 5.97 and also new funny car pilot  Jörgen Johnson passed his license upgrade and by doing so made his way into the elimination ladder.

"Conditions are tough at the moment for us", comments crew chief Göran Edman of team Kågered. "We have struggled with a defect transmission which have had an bad impact on the performance of the car. We should really have needed one more run to find out for sure that the adjustments we have made after the reparation of the transmission work the way we hope," Göran continues."Mainly it all comes down to the fuel/clutch combination and there are many factors to take into account before making a decision - for example how much the clutch is slipping, if there are tire shakes etc. The team that can sort it out best to match the current weather and track condition will be the winner. It can be anyone of us.

COMMENTS Eliminations:

To begin with today the track was very slippery, which made us make a last minute change in the clutch setup. That proved to be a good move and gave us the win over Leif Helander. Ulf Leanders beat new comer Jörgen Johnsson, who was too eager on the starting line and red lighted. Since Leanders semi-final run was a solo run, it automatically qualified him a place in the final. Leif Andréasson had a solo run in the quarter finals and he used it well running 6.01 sec. In the semi-finals against Micke Andréasson´s car seemed to shake tires which caused him to loose time. Micke Kågered comments: "I never saw him during the run, an rare experience when it comes to me meeting Leif the last seasons. I deifinately want to experience it again!", says Micke. The finals between Kågered/Leanders ended in Leanders favour, when Micke Kågered engine broke 300 meters down the track. Despite this his time was a fine 5.99 sec (see below) and he was just overtaken by Leanders at the finish line.

COMMENTS Eliminations:

Micke Kågered´s first top fuel event ended after the first round of elimination, where he was defeated by Peter Beck. Micke did his driving job properly although the ride was not a smooth one, the car shaking tires. Down half track the vibrations made the fuel pump shake loose and the run was over.  In the semi-finals both Peter Beck and Barry Sheavills broke their engines badly and will not be able to make it to the finals, which means Anita Mäkelä will have an easy bye run in the final.

Micke Kågered´s comment on this: "To be the first  event for us in the class, we can not be too disappointed although we would have liked to perform better. We missed the number one qualifying spot by only 5 hundreds of a second, that made the difference in the outcome of this race. However, we are happy that nothing was badly damaged after the fuel pump shook loose for us at half track. "

Next event for the top fuel dragster will be the top fuel tour event at Wittstock, Germany four weeks from now.
