FIA Round #6 EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
QUALIFICATION RESULTS TOP FUEL DRAGSTER
COMMENTS Qualifications 1st session:
As usual at the first top fuel session the field were scattered. Micke Kågered´s car shook tires so bad the parachutes came out at half track. Overpowering the track seemed to be the general problem. Callin´s blower belt came off and ruined her try. Möller looking pretty good as Smax Smith (although damage to the engine was the result of this run). Not much to say as it is only the beginning of the qualifications. The only question is; who will be the first to run into the 4´s tomorrow?
![]()
COMMENTS Qualifications 2nd session:
High class performance, when Peter Beck was first in the 4´s this weekend and Kim Reymond set a new European time and speed record in the pair after! Kågered still struggling with tire shakes, this time managed to drive through it but had already lost time at that point. Still one more session so lets hope our crew can work on a better working combination for Micke until then. Mäkelä also in trouble, performing way off at the moment and Möller also somewhat off from the performance we are used to see from his team.
COMMENTS Qualifications 3rd session:
Not many cars out on the track this session, only the ones that re3ally needed to improve including Micke Kågered. The setup had been changed to this run, but still the result proved to be tires shakes. That puts him in the no#7 spot in the ladder, which means he will be up against Peter Beck in the quarter finals. Beck has been running in the 4,90´s so on the paper it looks like a tough task. Möller improved and joined Beck and Reymond in the 4´s, now 3rd quickest. Mäkelä broke parts both yesterday and today and could not make the last session, which means she is out of the ladder (if all other eight cars are fit for fight that is). She stands as first alternate.
- elapsed time sec. and speed m.p.h. -
COMMENTS Eliminations Quarter-finals:
Interesting scenario as all top four drivers in the points standings were spread in different pairs for the eliminations. In theory it could all come down to the final of the event before all is decided. Micke Kågered did not have any luck during the qualifications, the main problem being that this car works so completely different from the other two cars in Knut Söderqvist´s operation. All three cars tuned by Alan Jackson, who did a great job for Smax Smith and Susanne Callin during qualifications. However, when it all came down to it for the eliminations Kågered had it. Not only did he run a good 4.92, he won the race at the starting line by having a quicker reaction time than Beck (Beck running one hundred of a second quicker). We were in for some surprises as FIA leading Smax Smith got a shaky ride against Susanne Callin. Callin´s blower belt however came off right after the start and Smith took the win although performing modest. The run between Möller and rookie Webster became a bye run as Webster got a fuel leak after the burnout. European record holder Kim Reymond was surprisingly put out of further competition by Darryl Bradford, which means he lost the chance to be the FIA champion. Three drivers remain then.. Smith, now 11 points ahead of Kågered and 31 points ahead of Möller. The bad news is that team Kågered is in for an engine change for next round, so the time is critical at the moment.
COMMENTS Eliminations Semi-finals:
The thriller continues and now three drivers are down to two in the battle for the championship title. Darryl Bradfors was unfortunately taken out of comptetition before the run as he could not get the reverse gear in after the burnout. That meant a bye run for Smith and he chose to go easy on the parts. Tommy Möller was out first from the starting line and in in the lead by half a car length until after 300 meters where Micke finally cought up to and passed Möller. So it all comes down to the final.. The one who wins the final wins the championship. An engine change is needed for team Kågered again and time is real crucial once again to make it in time for the final.
COMMENTS Eliminations Final:
After two engine changes and a lot of hard work by the crew Micke Kågered made a grand sorti in a ball of fire over the finish line, when the engine caught fire at half track. Very spectacular but under control so Micke was never in danger. The race was lost by a car length and from behind it was impossible to see who was the winner. Congratulations are in order to Smax Smith and team and we can only say one thing.. we did what we could!
COMMENTS Qualifications 1st session:
Niclas Andersson did have some kind of staging problem as he in the process passed the photo cells and started the timing system early without actually launching. In reality it mean the elapsed time 6.39 should have been at least a low 6.. Nothing wrong with the track as Andréasson showed the field by running 5.89 in this first session (without brakes as he later found out). Erbacher started modest, but as we know there is more to come from that team. Lundqvist got into trouble after the burnout and never completed the run. Still one more session later this afternoon and we will see where we stand after that..
COMMENTS Qualifications 2nd session:
During the second session the field were tighter. Andersson improving as most of the others. Andréasson still in the 80´s and Dan Larsen now quickest in the field. Our guess is that we will see more cars in the 5.70´s before the qualifications are over. Two more sessions scheduled for saturday and the heat is on..
COMMENTS Qualifications 3rd session:
Improvement once again. This time Leanders took the lead away from Dan Larsen. Andréasson improved greatly to 5.79, but that only is the 3rd quickest time in the field at the moment. Problems occured for Niclas Andersson when staring the engine, which meant he could not proceed. Nothing major, so Niclas will appear at the last qualification session a bit later.
COMMENTS Qualifications 4th session:
The plan for Niclas Andersson this last qualification run was to make a half pass and that went smooth and looked real good on the computer printout afterwards. Impressive performance by team Leanders, who by running 5.66 took the no#1 spot and as far as we know run a new European quickest. Other than that no improvements for any of the other teams. Andréasson broke the engine during the 3rd session and as it looks they do not have the parts needed to be in the elimination ladder sunday. If not, the no#9 qualifier (Doug Ripley) will take Andréassons place and is then up against Niclas Andersson in the quarter finals.
ELIMINATIONS TOP METHANOL FUNNY CAR
COMMENTS Eliminations Quarter-finals:
As team Andréasson could not get hold of parts to put together another engine for the eliminations. That meant first alternate Doug Ripley took Andréasson´s place in the quarter finals against Niclas Andersson. The win for Niclas was clear and he is on to the semi-finals where he is up against Dan Larsen. Tough task for Andersson, but anything can happen. Erbacher, starting to get closer to his "normal standard and the semi-final between him and Ulf Leanders will be a thriller for sure! All in all, the favourites still in the race and in a few hours time will will know the outcome of the next round.
COMMENTS Eliminations Semi-finals:
Andersson got a scary ride as he got oil under one of the rear tires and almost hit the guardrail. Luckily, as Niclas is a skilled driver he managed to sort it out, but the run was lost. Not much to say as Larsen did well. European champion Erbacher was put out of competition by Leanders, who is the surprise and gigant of the weekend for sure. A final between Larsen/Leanders could is going to be real exciting.
COMMENTS Eliminations Final:
Although Leanders have been the man of the event, when it all came down to it, it was Dan Laresn who had it all together in the final. Worthy winner and our congratulations goes to them as well as team Leanders who set an unofficial new european time record of 5.66 seconds!
Nitro Olympics -
FIA Round #5
QUALIFICATION RESULTS TOP FUEL DRAGSTER
COMMENTS Qualifications 1st session:
Most teams decided not to run, since the track was not in a condition to take the power that a top fueler possess. Beck and Kalivoda just went out and did burnouts for the crowd and took their cars down the track as smooth as they could.
COMMENTS Qualifications 2nd session:
The track was worked on overnight to improve the traction. This morning is was better, but still needs to be improved. Micke Kågered lost traction 100 meters out and shut off as soon as he realised there was no use. Möller and Smith quickest in the field so far, but performance far from what we are used to see. Still one session remaining before the end of the day and as it looks teams need to take off power from the cars to calm them down as well as they can.
COMMENTS Qualifications 3rd session:
Once again traction problem for team Kågered and the car smoked the tires. Improvement for Reymond, Kalivoda and Möller. Reymond now quickest in the field. Smith and Beck not out this session due to breakage the run before. However they will be in the ladder in sundays eliminations.
- elapsed time sec. and speed km/h -
COMMENTS Eliminations Quarter-finals:
Six cars on site means a six-car ladder. Advantage for the winner in the pair Reymond/Beck who gets a solo run in the semi-finals. Peter Beck, who did not achieve much during the qualifications got it right in the quarter finals against Reymond. Reymond´s car lost traction half track and that was enough for Beck to take the win. The run Kågered/Smith were a very close race where Micke Kågered had the race until the last 50 meters. Mölller´s improving performance from the qualifications was enough to beat US Brady Kalivoda. So Beck is without pressure in the semi-finals. The battle between Smith and Möller is bound to be a thriller..
COMMENTS Eliminations Semi-finals:
.. and a thriller it was.. both cars smoked the tires and for a fragment of a second it looked like Smith would take the win, when the car stopped pulling. It later showed to be the crank that broke. Beck in a semi-final solo run chose to go easy on the parts.
COMMENTS Eliminations Final:
Peter Beck is back for sure and he proved it by winning the event here in Hockenheim. Close final as it should be. Beck will be running at Santa Pod two weeks, but has nothing to do with the battle of the championship title this year.
QUALIFICATION RESULTS TOP METHANOL FUNNY CAR
COMMENTS Qualifications 1st session:
One session run today and the confusion was total as the session first was cancelled and then not, which meant some of the teams did not get the word to line up. Anyway, modest preformance by the teams that actually was out on the track. Niclas quickest in the field with 6.28 and we are of course pleased with that. The track will be worked on overnight and we expect to see more normal standards of performance during saturday. The weather still very hot and with forecast to stay that way.
COMMENTS Qualifications 2nd session:

COMMENTS Qualifications 3rd session:
Some changes occured during this last qualifying session as we anticipated. Andréasson now second quickest, Leanders and Andersson continued consistent. Lundqvist have parked his car for the weekend after his race car body was too badly damaged earlier today.
- elapsed time sec. and speed km/h -
COMMENTS Eliminations Quarter-finals:
Really an unexpected and exciting quarter final session. First pair out was first alternate Fredde Fagerström, who took out no#1 qualifyer Ulf Leanders from further competition. The race Andersson/Krivan was a thriller where where Niclas had problems with tire shakes and barely beat Krivan. Andréasson back in good shape running in the 5´s. Erbacher further to the semi-finals, but the race between him and Larsen was a close call.
COMMENTS Eliminations Semi-finals:
A continued thriller in the semi-final between Andréasson and Andersson where Andréasson had the quicker time, but lost the race anyway on the starting line. The happiness for team Kågered may not last long as the engine on Niclas car is badly damaged and at the moment we are looking to find out if a engine change car cure it or if the damage is too extensive to make it in time for the finals..
COMMENTS Eliminations Final:
Another 5 minutes and we would have made it in time for the final. Extensive damage, not only to the engine meant we had to switch engine and make major repairs on the intake manifold and more. Well, well big disappointment but we really did what we could to make it to the finals and only gave up when we heard Urs doing the burnout on the track.
Gardemoen Drag Challenge -
FIA Round #4
QUALIFICATION RESULTS TOP FUEL DRAGSTER
COMMENTS Qualifications 1st session:
Scattered top fuel performance this first session with lots of initial problems for the teams.. Micke Kågered -reverese gear failure after the burnout. Reymond had it going when the blower belt snapped (same as for Micke Kågered at Mantorp last weekend). Carter, Mäkelä and Möller had what seemed to be traction problems. The man of the day for sure Smax Smith running 4.97 as last man out in this session. Impressive.. Two more runs scheduled saturday.
COMMENTS Qualifications 2nd session:
At last Micke Kågered is getting it together. WIth full throttle only 4.01 seconds his pass was 5.04 seconds, which says a little of the potential. Carter did an OK pass, but got two flat tires after the finish line (looked like parts from the engine cut the tires). Carter himself was completely OK, but the chassis was damaged and can´t be used more this weekend. At the moment team Carter are trying to get a complete car again by using Knut Söderqvist spare car (driven at Mantorp by Susanne Callin). Impressive performance by Rune Fjeld´s car with Norwegian Öyvor Jacobsen behind the wheel.
COMMENTS Qualifications 3rd session: We had it going last run.. and here it came. Micke Kågered´s first 4-second run in the new car. Stunningly enough Kim Reymond set a new "currently quickest in Europe E.T" in the pair before Micke. Can Reymond back it up during sunday´s eliminations? We will just have to wait and see..
- elapsed time sec. and speed km/h -
COMMENTS Eliminations Quarter-finals:
Mäkelä took the win over Jacobsen easy as Jacobsen was slow from the startline. Reymond did not make a full pass, probably according to plan as he had a solo run. Smith was disqualifeid after having taken off the windshield panel from the car and with that Möller also knew he had a solo run. Micke As Carter did not get another car together for the race, Kågered´s pass was a solo run. That proved to be a stroke of luck as he blew the engine half track (a piston out the block) and we are in for an engine change for the semi-finals against Mäkälä. Möller is up against Reymond.
COMMENTS Eliminations Semi-finals:
Reymond somewhat unexpectedly out in the semi-final against Möller. Smax Smith´s crew came to help team Kågered and the change of engine went very smootly. After the hard work it was a blast to get out on the track and run 5.05 in the semi´s. Something happened for Mäkelä and at half track she was hopelessly after Micke. Kågered and Möller in the final, where Micke gets the lane choice.
COMMENTS Eliminations Final: Micke Kågered was out first from the starting line and lead all the way. The car seemd to loose some power at the last part of the track, but a 5.07 against Möller´s 5.31 was quite sufficeint to take the win! Second FIA win for team Kågered, who now takes the lead in the points standings from Smax Smith.
COMMENTS Qualifications 1st session:
Surprise of the day was Ulf Leanders running 5.79/396 km right off the trailer! That meant Urs Erbacher was not quickets today as we have gotten prrety used to by now. Erbacher and Larsen also in the 5´s while the rest of the bunch need to make adjustments to match the track better. Andréasson experienced tire shakes, Anderssons´s car to weak and adjustments will be made accordingly. Lundqvist not out this session.
COMMENTS Qualifications 2nd session:
Wow, what a performance this second TMFC session. Andréasson stunned everyone by running 5.74 and now is back in the top where we have been used to see him the last seasons. Continued good perforemance by Erbacher, Leanders. Larsen somewhat slower than yesterday, but we know there is more to come. Personal best for Fredde Fagerström, who doubles this weekend and also run his Pro Mod car, he set a personal best there as well this morning running 6.49! Team Kågered still way off in adjustments and Andersson shut off early as the car was barely drivable. Major changes made for next run, let´s hope that works better.
COMMENTS Qualifications 3rd session:
Again Erbacher in the lead after a stunning 5.72/404 km. This was the quickest TMFC session ever. It says it all when Dan Larsen runs a 5.80 and with that is only qualified number four! Andréasson and Fagerström having problems overpowering the track and had to shut off early. Andersson´s run looked OK, but the clutch still needs adjusting. One more run scheduled. We are running behind schedule but the conditions will only get better as the air gets cooler (sunny and warm here at Gardermoen).
COMMENTS Qualifications 4th session: Once again quickets methanol session ever in Europe performancewise. Andréasson dramatically snatched the no#1 qualifying spot from Erbacher by running a "quickest in Europe" 5.70 flat! Erbacher was lined up but could not get the engine started. Good session also for Fagerström, who run his first 5-second run and was very pleased with that. Larsen´s blower belt snapped in the burnout and that completed his day. Leanders again quick. He has been out on the track in all four session with a slowest E.T. of 5.89 seconds.. very impressive! Andersson had it coming to half track when the transmission broke (we had a high 5.80 going considering all details on the timeslip). Bad luck this time as the clutch seemed to be matching the track better this time.
- elapsed time sec. and speed km/h -
COMMENTS Eliminations Quarter-finals:
Stroke of luck for Andréasson to have a bye-run as the blower belt came off half track. Major front wheel lift for Lundqvist right from the start and he had no chance against Erbacher. Larsen outran Fagerström and Andersson was beaten by Leanders, although running his best E.T. of the weekend. No major surprises - Andréasson, Erbacher, Leanders and Larsen on to the semi-finals.
COMMENTS Eliminations Semi-finals:
Not much to do about Urs Erbacher, who is a class of his own right now. Andréasson broke the clutch last run and changed it for this run. We don´t know what went wrong, but something happened during the run. Larsen has snapped a blower belt almost every run and did so this time as well. However it must have been after the finish line.
COMMENTS Eliminations Final:
Tough call for Larsen who lost to Erbacher despite running a stunning 5.78 second-run. What can we say, that Swiss guys are just impossible to outrun at the moment!
Mantorp Park, Sweden, July 24-27th EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
COMMENTS Qualifications friday:
First 4-second run at Mantorp was performed by Kim Reymond. He was soon followed by Smax Smith in the 4´s. Micke Kågered´s car lost cylinders and power at the last part of the track. Currently qualified number four, Micke Kågered hope to improve performance saturday when two more qualifications are scheduled.
COMMENTS Qualifications saturday:
Micke Kågered improved saturday by running 5.06. By that Micke and Anita Mäkelä were the two quickest in the field for the day. However the 4-second runs performed by Smith and Reymond friday proved to last as quickest, since the last qualifying session had to be cancelled when heavy rain reached Mantorp Park late saturday afternoon. The elimination ladder accordingly looks as above..
- elapsed time sec. and speed km/h -
COMMENTS Eliminations:
There was nothing wrong with the Mantorp track this year, preparations had been thorough and performance in the top fuel class was the best ever at Mantorp so far. Micke Kågered had a tough weekend as the blower belt came off the car already 100 meters out in the quarter finals ans he was out. Callin accordingly into the semi-finals against Reymond, where her luck proved to be gone. Major engine failure meant she was out as well. Möller, who have had problems earlier this season with tire shakes found the combination for Mantorp just in time for the eliminations, where he followed Smith and Reymond in the 4´s by running 4.96 in the quarter finals. The semi-final between Möller and Andy Carter was close and it was Carter that came out as the winner of that battle. Unfortunately rain stopped the organisers from running the final between Carter and Reymond. A final that would probably have provided the huge spectator crowd with more 4-second runs.
COMMENTS Qualifications friday:
Two sessions were cut down to one since it rained part of the day. Team Kågered underestimated the conditions of the track and Niclas run was not among the quickest in the field. Three teams in the 5´s with Erbacher running outstandingly as he has been so far this season. Saturday will be a most interesting day with at track that seems to be very well prepared. Niclas is currently in the fifth qualifying spot. Two sessions were cut down to one since it rained part of the day. Three teams in the 5´s with Erbacher running outstandingly as he has been so far this season. Saturday will be a most interesting day with at track that seems to be very well prepared. COMMENTS Qualifications saturday:
Niclas Andersson got to run in the 5´s for the first time today and by that qualified as number 5. Erbacher still outstanding, Andréasson improving and Leanders back ingood form again. The last session was cancelled due to rain, which leave the elimination ladder looking as above.
- elapsed time sec. and speed km/h -
COMMENTS Eliminations:
Not team Kågered´s luckiest race day in history, that´s for sure. Niclas Andersson was shut off after the burnout as fuel were leaking from a timer in the fuel system of the car. Very unfortunate as Andersson has really started to get the hang of it now, running in the 5´s during qualifications. As Niclas was shut off, Leanders automatically was set for the semi-final, where Erbacher was the man to beat. Tough call for Laenders, who got beaten although running a 5.83 second run. That would have done the job against any other team, but not team Erbacher at the moment. On the other half of the ladder Andréasson was surprisingly out already in the quarter finals as he was all over the track and had to shut off. Fagerström for the second event in a row in the semi-finals, but there Johnsson proved to be a too tough task. Johnsson who has one of the finest cars of all, has finally found a working combination and are closing in fast on the rest of the field. The final Erbacher/Johnsson (as all other finals) was cancelled due to heavy rain over the Mantorp area. A real pity, as Johnsson would probably have given Erbacher a good race for the title this weekend!
Alastaro Circuit, Finland, July 4-6th EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
![]()
COMMENTS 1st session: Well, well.. this was definately the lady´s run as Anita Mäkelä showed the spectators how to do a proper top fuel run. A fuel line shook losse off Micke Kågered´s car and he was just washed all over in nitro (no damage caused however). Carter looked like he had overpowered the car and for a glimpse of a second it looked like the back tires were not touching the ground at all. Möller shutoff by the starter as it was considered he took too long to get in start position. Reymond not out on the track this session. Smax Smith who won the first FIA round, started this weekend in a modest way, but nothing broken so it seems like they just need to change the setup at bit. One more session to this evening..
COMMENTS 2nd session: Anita Mäkelä not out this run, but still in the lead after it.. Smax Smith managed a decent 5.19 in the same pair as Micke Kågered. Kågered tried to pedal the car down the track, but was not satiesfied with the outcome and shut off early. Möller and Reymond had traction problems too. Carter as well at first, but seemed to get hold of it when the blower belt came off the car. Still Only Anita in the 4-second range, but we are counting on more of the teams to join her saturday. Three more sessions scheduled. Our guess is that most teams will choose to run two runs.. Team Kågered has some work to do on the top fueler. The bolts to the camshaft broke, allowing the camshaft to flex which in the end can cause an engine explosion.
COMMENTS 3rd session: Micke Kågered working his way down the field during this session, but still needs to run quicker. The car lost power at the last part of the track, but other than that went straight and smooth all the way. Carter at last on his way.. still tire shakes but running a 5.14 which must be considered good under the circumstances. Damage to Mäkelä´s engine stopped her from repeating a 4-second run. Reymond and Möller still having problems with traction and at the moment they are out of the 4-car ladder that will be eliminated sunday. Two more sessions secheduled saturday and none of the teams can feel safe and certain of a place in the ladder yet.
COMMENTS 4th session: Micke Kågered was pleased after the last run of the day. The time 6.11 was his halfpass time and it was according to plan. "It felt so good I really wanted to make a full pass, but at the same time was looking to go easy on the parts as we knew we were in the field before the run", Micke cpomments. The car looked very good and did not loose traction as the other teams this session. Surprisingly both Reymond and Möller out of the eliminations, as this is a 4-car field event. Kågered meets Mäkelä and Smith will take on Carter. Anything can come out of it as all teams have been struggling not to overpower the track.
4-car elimination ladder. - elapsed time sec. and speed km/h -
COMMENTS Semi-finals: Micke Kågered is back for sure.. The car dropped a few cylinders at the later part of the track, the E.T. was accordingly not the quickest in the field. However loosing power may have helped some to keep tire shakes away as Micke had no problems at all with the traction. Mäkelä after Micke from the start and never caught up with him again having engine problems. The meeting between Smith and Carter were closer. Carter lost the blower belt and narrowly lost to Smith.
COMMENTS Final: In the final between Smith and Kågered, Smith could not get the reverse gear in and that left Micke with a solo run. All in all a good event for Micke Kågered, who will be someone to count with in the coming events for sure.
